Insider Activity

What is Net Insider Buying (6M)?

The dollar value of open-market shares insiders bought minus the value they sold over the last six months. Positive means insiders were net buyers.

How it is calculated

Sum of shares times price for open-market purchases (Form 4 code P) minus the same for open-market sales (code S), non-derivative, priced transactions only.

How to read it

Insiders sell for many reasons but buy for one. A positive figure, especially from several insiders, is one of the few signals worth weighting on its own.

Keep in mind

Option exercises, grants, gifts, tax withholding and transactions whose price appears only in a footnote are excluded. A sale of the shares received from an exercise is still an open-market sale and does count.

Where the numbers come from

Scrutar computes Net Insider Buying (6M) from the Form 4 reports insiders file with the SEC, using the transaction code, share count and price on each line.
