Scrutar ("we", "us", "our") is committed to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, store, and share your personal information when you use our financial data analysis platform ("the Service").

2.1 Information You Provide

• Account information: Your name, email address, and any profile details you choose to provide during registration.
• User-generated content: Research memos, watchlists, portfolio configurations, alert preferences, feedback submissions, and chat conversations with Ask Scrutar.
• Billing information: If you subscribe to a paid plan, payment details are collected and processed by our third-party payment processor. We do not store your full credit card number.

2.2 Information Collected Automatically

• Usage data: Pages visited, features used, search queries, companies researched, and filings viewed.
• Device and browser information: Browser type, operating system, screen resolution, and device identifiers.
• Log data: IP address, access times, and referring URLs.

3. How We Use Your Information

We use the information we collect to:

• Provide, maintain, and improve the Service, including personalized dashboards, watchlists, and alert delivery.
• Process your requests, including AI-powered queries through Ask Scrutar, semantic search, and red flag analysis.
• Send you notifications and alerts you have configured (ownership changes, red flags, semantic alerts, event alerts).
• Communicate with you about your account, service updates, and respond to support requests.
• Monitor and analyze usage trends to improve functionality and user experience.
• Detect and prevent fraud, abuse, and security incidents.

4. AI Processing and Third-Party Models

Scrutar uses third-party AI and large language model (LLM) providers to power features such as data extraction, filing summarization, risk analysis, guidance interpretation, and the Ask Scrutar conversational interface.

When you use AI-powered features:

• Your queries, selected filing content, and relevant context may be sent to third-party AI providers for processing.
• We do not send your personal account information (name, email, billing details) to AI providers.

We track aggregate AI usage metrics (token counts, request volumes, model usage) for service monitoring and cost management. These metrics do not contain your personal information or the content of your queries.

5. Data Sharing

We do not sell your personal information. We may share your information in the following circumstances:

• Service providers: With third-party vendors who help us operate the Service (hosting, payment processing, AI model providers, email delivery), under agreements that require them to protect your information.
• Legal requirements: When required by law, court order, or governmental regulation, or to protect the rights, safety, or property of Scrutar, our users, or the public.
• Business transfers: In connection with a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets, your information may be transferred as part of that transaction.

6. Data Retention

We retain your account information and user-generated content for as long as your account is active. Usage logs and analytics data are retained for up to 24 months. When you delete your account, we will delete your personal information within 30 days, except where retention is required by law or for legitimate business purposes (such as resolving disputes or enforcing agreements).

7. Data Security

We implement industry-standard security measures to protect your information, including encryption in transit (TLS), secure authentication with token-based access controls, and regular security reviews. However, no method of transmission or storage is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.

Depending on your jurisdiction, you may have the right to:

• Correct inaccurate or incomplete personal information.
• Delete your account and associated personal information.

9. Cookies, Local Storage, and Analytics

Scrutar uses browser local storage to maintain your authentication session and user preferences (such as theme selection and sidebar state). Essential session data is stored locally on your device and is not shared with external parties.

We use the following analytics services to understand how users interact with the Service and to improve the user experience:

• Google Analytics 4 (GA4): Collects anonymized usage data including pages visited, session duration, and general geographic location. Data is processed by Google in accordance with their Privacy Policy.
• Microsoft Clarity: Records anonymized session replays and generates heatmaps to help us understand how users navigate the interface. Clarity automatically masks sensitive input fields. Data is processed by Microsoft in accordance with their Privacy Statement.

Opting Out of Analytics

You can opt out of analytics tracking at any time. To disable Google Analytics, install the Google Analytics Opt-out Browser Add-on. To disable Microsoft Clarity, you can use a browser-based content blocker or contact us to request opt-out. We respect Do Not Track (DNT) browser signals where supported by our analytics providers.

10. Children's Privacy

The Service is not intended for users under the age of 18. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If we learn that we have collected information from a child under 18, we will take steps to delete that information promptly.

11. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of material changes by posting the updated policy on this page and updating the "Last updated" date. Your continued use of the Service after changes become effective constitutes acceptance of the revised policy.
