Income Statement

What is Operating Income?

Profit from running the business, after all operating costs but before interest and tax. Often called operating profit or EBIT.

How it is calculated

Gross profit minus operating expenses such as R&D, sales, marketing and administration.

How to read it

The cleanest view of how well the core business performs, because financing choices and tax rates do not affect it.

Where the numbers come from

Scrutar computes Operating Income from the figures each company reports to the SEC in its annual and quarterly filings, using the XBRL data attached to those filings.
