Income Statement

What is EPS?

Net income spread over the average number of shares, so profit can be compared per share and against the share price.

How it is calculated

Net income divided by the weighted average basic shares outstanding.

How to read it

Prefer diluted EPS, which also counts shares that options and convertibles could add.

Keep in mind

Per-share figures are as reported in each filing and are not adjusted for later stock splits, so values before a split look larger.

Where the numbers come from

Scrutar computes EPS from the figures each company reports to the SEC in its annual and quarterly filings, using the XBRL data attached to those filings.
